Medtronic named among top corporate citizens in new report
Medtronic has been hailed as one of the top US-based corporate citizens, based on its commitment to environmental protection, human rights and best practice.
Corporate Responsibility Magazine has published its annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List, in which Medtronic was ranked in 81st position. It means the firm has now been included in the report in four of the last five years.
Based on publicly available information, the list is recognized as one of top measurements of corporate responsibility in the US. It recognises companies for their commitment to climate change prevention, employee relations, governance, finance and philanthropy.
This comes after the firm was also recently included in the 2013 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, FTSE4Good Index and the 2013 Forbes America's Most Reputable Companies lists.
Omar Ishrak, Medtronic's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "Medtronic's mission, unchanged since founder Earl Bakken wrote it more than half a century ago, calls us to contribute to human welfare in a way that maintains good citizenship as a company."
The firm is the largest medical technology business in the world, with a global reach extending to more than 140 countries.
