Medtronic receives CE Mark approval for Viva pacemaker

6th May 2014

Medtronic has announced that its new Viva CRT-P device is being launched in Europe after receiving CE Mark accreditation.

The cardiac resynchronisation therapy-pacemaker has been designed to automatically adapt to patient needs, continuously optimise therapy, improve response rates and reduce heart failure hospitalisations.

It incorporates the company's AdaptivCRT software, the only algorithm demonstrated to improve heart failure patients' response to therapy and reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation when compared to conventional biventricular therapy.

Meanwhile, its OptiVol Fluid Status Monitoring and Cardiac Compass Report features provide high levels of insight into patients' physiological conditions.

Dr David Steinhaus, medical director for the cardiac rhythm disease management business at Medtronic, said: "This represents a win for both patients and physicians and, when coupled with additional longevity, provides another layer of distinct value over a longer period."

This follows on from the EU launch of the firm's Evera MRI SureScan implantable cardioverter-defibrillator system last month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801717972-ADNFCR
