Elanco introduces new ordering process for Recuvyra
Elanco has announced the launch of a new ordering process for its product Recuvyra in order to facilitate access to the drug among vet practices.
Following this change, the transdermal fentanyl solution – for the control of postoperative pain relief in dogs – can be purchased without having to complete the online training programme, which had been mandatory since the launch of the product in April 2013.
The company noted that training is still recommended, due to the innovative nature of its administration method. It is applied to the area between the shoulderblades via a unique needleless two-pronged adaptor two to four hours prior to surgery.
A short online training course will still be available online, while every vial of Recuvyra purchased will come with an instructional leaflet, including directions for use and special precaution information.
It was noted that veterinary practices will still need to follow their wholesalers' procedures for ordering Schedule Two Controlled Drugs when purchasing Recuvyra.
Alice Laurens, Recuvyra product manager at Elanco Companion Animal Health, added: "However, any vet from the practice can now order and sign for delivery of the product, making it easier to purchase."
