GDC calls for new FtP clinical advisors and experts
The General Dental Council (GDC) has announced that it is looking for new clinical advisors and experts to help guide its fitness to practise (FtP) process.
Experts provide vital insights in the GDC's investigations of FtP concerns raised by patients, registrants, organisations or members of the public about the conduct, performance or health of dentists.
They will be asked to share their knowledge, skills and expertise by providing independent clinical advice and opinions in written reports, as well as occasionally being asked to attend hearings when a registrant is referred to a GDC practice committee.
New advisors and experts are being sought as the GDC has seen a dramatic caseload increase over the past four years.
A clinical advisor from London said his experience of working in this capacity has been a positive one, noting: "Being an expert witness adds challenges and interest to your career and is a reminder of professional frailties. I can recommend this career direction to anyone."
This comes after the regulatory body struck off a dentist and dental technician last week following investigations into alleged misconduct.
