AbbVie study shows adherence benefits of anti-TNF therapies

AbbVie has announced results from a global study that shows the adherence benefits of anti-TNF therapies across a number of chronic inflammatory diseases.

The multi-country Align study involved more than 7,000 patients who were receiving conventional therapy and/or TNF inhibitors for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis or psoriasis.

It was found that adherence to treatment was generally higher in patients being treated with TNF inhibitors compared to those receiving conventional therapies across all six disease categories.

The study also revealed that patients who were accepting toward their medication were more often adherent than those with a more ambivalent outlook.

Dr Maria Rivas, vice-president of global medical affairs at AbbVie, said: "AbbVie remains committed to providing educational resources and tools to help facilitate physician-patient dialogue so that physicians are more able to identify behaviors that may lead to a lack of adherence."

Earlier this month, the company announced the launch of a newly-expanded manufacturing facility in Sligo, Ireland, which will aid its efforts to produce and distribute new therapies worldwide.
