Boston Scientific reports positive study data for Vercise DBS system

Boston Scientific has announced positive data from a pair of new studies of its Vercise deep brain stimulation (DBS) system.

In the first of these trials, entitled CUSTOM-DBS, it was demonstrated that shorter stimulation pulses may offer a clinical advantage over DBS therapy using conventional pulses. Vercise is the only commercially available platform with the capability to generate stimulation pulses at the shorter pulse width settings.

Meanwhile, data from a second study called Vantage associated the use of Boston Scientific's device with a highly significant and consistent improvement in motor scores after a year of treatment.

It delivered a 62 percent improvement in motor function at 12 months post implant, as well as significantly bolstering quality of life.

This comes after the company last month reported positive clinical trial data for its Lotus Valve System, an advanced transcatheter aortic valve implantation system.
