Ceva reveals dog owners’ concerns over rise in UK tick population

Ceva has highlighted the benefits its new product Vectra 3D can provide in assuaging the concerns UK dog owners may have about rising tick populations.

A survey by the firm has revealed that 80 percent of British dog owners are concerned about the recent rise in tick populations. The number of cases of humans with Lyme disease has shot up in the past decade, with an estimated 15 percent of dogs affected by ticks.

While 20 percent of pet owners take their dog to the vet if they find a tick, only 15 percent apply a spot-on that kills them, while nearly 60 percent remove the tick themselves. Moreover, only 40 percent of owners treat their pet for fleas and ticks every month, leaving many unprotected.

Rob McLintock, companion animal business unit manager at Ceva Animal Health, said: "It is essential that dog owners do all they can to protect their pets from ticks to help prevent Lyme disease."

Ceva's Vectra 3D is an innovative new broad spectrum topical ectoparasiticide that protects dogs against fleas, ticks and flies.

Released earlier this year, the product takes effect within two hours of use. Its unique applicator has an elongated smooth tip, making it quick and easy to reach the dog's skin through the hair.
