Sigma-Aldrich included in Newsweek Green Rankings for 2014

Sigma-Aldrich has been named as one of the top five most sustainable companies in the US by respected publication Newsweek.

The company achieved fifth place in the 2014 Newsweek Green Rankings, marking its third appearance on the list. By achieving this high position in a list of 500 US-based companies, it ranked among the nation's top one percent of businesses for environmental performance.

Sigma-Aldrich has made great strides on this front in recent years, expanding its line of greener alternative products and reducing its water usage by 31 percent since 2010, saving roughly 1.5 million cubic meters of water in the process.

By helping its customers reduce their environmental impacts at the earliest stages of research and development, the organisation's green initiatives can also offer a substantial ripple effect.

Rakesh Sachdev, president and chief executive officer of Sigma-Aldrich, said: "We are once again honoured to be recognised by Newsweek. Sustainable business practices have become an integral part of our corporate culture."

This comes after the firm was also included in a list of the world's 100 best corporate citizens from Corporate Responsibility Magazine earlier this year.
