Ceva study highlights pet owners’ fears over fireworks-related distress

Ceva Animal Health has underlined the steps that can be taken to protect domestic cats and dogs from distress during fireworks season.

A study conducted by the company has revealed that 57 percent of dog and cat owners believe that firework-centric festivities are stressful for their animals, with 75 percent saying they would avoid going out while fireworks are going off as a result.

Furthermore, 80 percent said they do not let their pet outside if fireworks are nearby, but despite this, many pet owners are failing to take sensible precautions to protect their animals. Indeed, Ceva's survey revealed that 40 percent do nothing at all.

As such, the company will be launching a new marketing campaign over the coming months to help educate consumers on the steps they can take, including its own products Adaptil and Feliway, which use pheromones to help calm animals down.

Adaptil and Feliway product manager Emma Jackson said: "The firework season can be an upsetting time for the nation's pets – however, there is plenty that can be done to help prepare cats and dogs for the noises and flashes from fireworks."

This comes after the company expanded its range of animal behavioural aids in June with the launch of ConfidenceEQ, a gel product that can decrease stress and anxiety among horses.
