Leica and Bristol-Myers Squibb ally to develop companion diagnostics

Leica has announced a new collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb on the creation of new companion diagnostic tests.

Under the terms of the deal, Leica will develop fully automated tissue-based companion diagnostic tests to run on its Bond automated advanced staining systems. The creation of companion diagnostics has been a key area of growth for Leica in recent times.

The tests can be used to aid the selection of patients for treatment with certain pharmaceuticals developed or to be developed by Bristol-Myers Squibb, including therapies for cancer and other conditions.

Leica is finding considerable success in this field, as its platforms and services are able to meet key requirements demanded by pharmaceutical partners, such as the capability to supply high quality in vitro diagnostic products.

Matthias Weber, president of Leica Biosystems, said: "The ease of use and high staining quality of our Bond systems makes them ideal platforms on which to deploy these very informative tests."
