Biotronik’s Home Monitoring shows benefits in new study

Biotronik has announced the publication of data from IN-TIME, a new study that demonstrates the clinical benefits offered by its Biotronik Home Monitoring system.

Featured in The Lancet, the randomised controlled trial is the first worldwide to demonstrate that automatic, implant-based remote monitoring can lead to significant benefits for heart failure patients.

Involving 664 patients in total, the study showed that Biotronik's system enabled physicians to detect worsening heart failure at an early stage, facilitating earlier intervention and better clinical outcomes, while cutting all-cause mortality by more than 50 percent.

It was also revealed that patients implanted with cardioverter defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillators benefited equally from the use of Home Monitoring.

Coordinating investigator Dr Gerhard Hindricks of the University of Leipzig Heart Center said: "Reducing mortality by over 50 percent is an excellent outcome for any therapy. IN-TIME showed how important automatic, daily transmissions of clinical and device data are to patient management and outcomes."

This comes after the firm previously shared data from IN-TIME at the recent Cardiostim 2014 electrophysiology and cardiology congress.
