Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer report positive VTE data for Eliquis

1st September 2014

Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer have announced data from a new clinical analysis showing the benefits of Eliquis in the treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE).

The pre-specified secondary analysis of the phase III AMPLIFY-EXT trial evaluated clinical and demographic predictors of all-cause hospitalisation in patients with VTE, which includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).

It was shown that during the 12-month extended treatment of VTE, Eliquis significantly reduced the risk of hospitalisation compared to placebo, independent of other variables including renal function.

Results from this trial were presented at the European Society of Cardiology congress, which is taking place in Barcelona from August 30th to September 3rd 2014.

Dr Alexander Cohen, study investigator and consultant physician of the department of haematology at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals and King's College London, said: "The findings from this secondary analysis provide additional support for extended anticoagulation with Eliquis in VTE patients."

Eliquis was approved in Europe for the treatment of DVT and PE in July 2014.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801745820-ADNFCR
