Idexx Laboratories and Philips announce digital pathology network alliance

Idexx Laboratories has announced a new partnership with Philips to utilise its Digital Pathology Solution VET solution to create a new virtual digital pathology network.

The firm will be using the Philips system as part of its Idexx Reference Laboratories service to digitise veterinary histopathology images. This will help to reduce turnaround time and provide improved service standards to practicing veterinarians around the world.

By using web-based tools to provide flexibility in day-to-day operations, vets will have more convenient access to subject-matter experts within Idexx Reference Laboratories' centres of excellence, including oncology, dermatology and immunohistochemistry, as well as avian and exotic medicine.

This is the latest development in a long-running collaborative partnership between Philips and Idexx.

Jeremy Johnson, head of anatomic pathology and histology at Idexx in North America, said: "The Philips pathology slide scanner and viewer allows us to leverage the expertise of our global veterinary pathologists in real time, and operationally integrates within our Lean Six Sigma practices."

This comes after the firm introduced its new RealPCR BVDV RNA Test for the diagnosis of bovine viral diarrhoea virus last month.
