Sigma-Aldrich to acquire Cell Marque Corporation
Sigma-Aldrich is attempting to improve the diagnostic health capabilities afforded to its immunohistochemistry (IHC) customers through the acquisition of Cell Marque Corporation.
The deal is expected to be completed by the end of the year, though it is subject to regulatory approval and other common closing conditions. Financial terms and other details have not yet been disclosed.
Cell Marque is based in Rocklin, California and manufactures antibody reagents and kits, employing around 90 people. The company has a strong reputation for IHC and high-quality products, providing validated, fit-for-purpose antibodies and IHC staining kits for pathologists and clinicians focused on patient management.
Sigma-Aldrich said its own diagnostic health reach will be boosted by the acquisition, with Cell Marque's expert knowledge and experience in the design, validation and manufacturing of in-vitro diagnostic antibodies for IHC complementing its existing portfolio.
Last month, Merck announced the purchase of Sigma-Aldrich for $140 per share in cash, valuing the company at $17 billion.
