Boehringer Ingelheim introduces oral prednisolone for horses

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced the launch of Equisolon, an oral prednisolone product for the alleviation of inflammation associated with recurrent airway obstruction (RAO) in horses.

This is the first licensed oral prednisolone of equines and is designed to be used in combination with environmental measures to treat RAO, a condition more commonly known as heaves.

Oral glucocorticoids of this kind are sometimes required for treating the inflammation associated with RAO. Equisolon is being made available as a 33 mg/g oral powder.

Clare Turnbull, equine brand and technical manager at Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, said: "We feel it is important that when our customers need to use prednisolone for their cases, there is an equine specific product available to them that is easy to dispense and administer."

Equisolon is the latest addition to the growing Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica equine respiratory portfolio, which also includes Sputolosin and Ventipulmin.

The company is the dedicated animal health branch of Boehringer Ingelheim and has maintained a UK presence since 1980.
