Cook Medical reports positive data from Zilver PTX study

Cook Medical has announced five-year results from a long-running clinical trial that demonstrates the continued patency offered by its Zilver PTX drug-eluting stent.

The randomised controlled trial of paclitaxel-eluting stents for femoropopliteal disease showed five-year primary patency of 66.4 percent in the superficial femoral artery for patients treated with the paclitaxel-eluting stent.

This 479-patient multicentre, prospective, randomised study was designed to evaluate the PTX stent as a treatment for peripheral arterial disease in the superficial femoral artery, and is the largest and longest-running clinical trial of a drug-eluting stent.

Mark Breedlove, vice-president and global leader of Cook Medical's peripheral intervention clinical division, said: "With this new data showing durable patency at five years, we're confident our Zilver PTX stent offers peripheral arterial disease patients a lasting benefit."

In September, the company announced the appointment of Jean-Marc Creissel as vice-president of its urology clinical division, as well as naming Connie Jackson as senior vice-president of human resources.
