Sanofi Pasteur reports publication of positive dengue vaccine data

10th November 2014

Sanofi Pasteur has announced the publication of landmark phase III efficacy showing the unique benefits offered by its groundbreaking new dengue vaccine candidate.

Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the study was shown to have successfully met its primary objective, confirming the vaccines' high efficacy against severe dengue and hospitalisation.

Overall efficacy against any symptomatic dengue disease was 60.8 percent in children and adolescents aged nine to 16 years old who received three doses of the vaccine. Results from this Latin American study confirmed those of an earlier trial held in Asia.

Sanofi Pasteur intends to file for registration of the product in several endemic countries in 2015. It is expected that this dengue vaccine would address an urgent unmet medical need in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world.

Olivier Charmeil, president and chief executive officer of Sanofi Pasteur, said: "We are committed to supporting countries' ambitions to significantly impact the human and economic burden of dengue through comprehensive vaccination programmes."
