Welch Allyn licenses diabetic retinopathy device for distribution

18th November 2014

Welch Allyn has agreed a deal to distribute the RETeval DR diabetic retinopathy assessment device to healthcare providers outside the US.

The company has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with LKC Technologies, the creator of the device, that will make the product available to international medical workers treating diabetic patients at increased risk of sight-threatening diseases such as diabetic retinopathy.

Providing a simple, fast, accurate and cost-effective way to screen for severe diabetic retinopathy without having to leave the primary care office, the device has been shown to reliably predict disease in clinical trials.

RETeval DR will be available from Welch Allyn in most countries outside the US in the first quarter of 2015.

Thomas Grant, director of new healthcare delivery solutions at Welch Allyn, said: "RETeval DR has the potential to reduce the impact of vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy by increasing access to, and compliance with, regular retinal screens for people with diabetes."

The company provides medical diagnostic equipment worldwide and has nearly 2,600 employees working in 26 different countries.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801760881-ADNFCR
