Eisai reports positive data from new Fycompa study

Eisai has announced positive clinical trial data from a new study of its antiepileptic drug Fycompa that recently took place in Asia.

Dubbed Study 335, the phase III trial assessed the drug as a treatment for patients with refractory partial-onset seizures in 710 patients aged 12 years and older across various Asian nations, including Japan and China.

Preliminary analysis of the study confirmed that Fycompa usage was associated with a statistically significant fall in seizure frequency at doses of eight and 12 mg per day, as well as a greater improvement in seizure reduction when compared to placebo.

The perampanel-based drug has been approved as an adjunctive treatment for partial-onset seizures in patients with epilepsy aged 12 years and older in more than 40 countries.

A company statement said: "Eisai considers neurology as a therapeutic area of focus and is committed to the development of treatments such as perampanel."

Eisai also applied for US and EU approval of Fycompa as an adjunctive treatment for primary generalised tonic-clonic seizures last year.
