BDA calls for evidence-based contractual rulings from DDRB

The British Dental Association (BDA) has called on the Review Body on Doctors' and Dentists' Remuneration (DDRB) to take an evidence-based approach to contractual reform.

Following the government's decision to extend the remit of the DDRB to look at contract reform, the BDA has urged the body to ensure that any fundamental changes to secondary care contracts for consultants and doctors and dentists in training are supported by evidence.

The BDA reacted with concern to the DDRB's expanded remit, following the stalling of contractual negotiations between the British Medical Association (BMA) and the Department of Health.

As such, the industry body has chosen to submit evidence directly to the DDRB on behalf of secondary care dentists, due to the potential impact the suggested changes may have on NHS sustainability and patient safety, as well as the welfare of staff.

A statement from the organisation said: "The BDA will continue to support the BMA to press the DDRB to ensure a fairer deal for doctors and dentists in secondary care, and for trainees."
