Unilever’s Port Sunlight hub receives visit from David Cameron

Unilever has thanked prime minister David Cameron and chancellor George Osborne for their recent visit to its strategically important hub in Port Sunlight.

Located in Wirral, the historic site has been significantly enhanced following recent investments and is now incorporates a global IT centre, a personal care factory and several research and development facilities, making it the new home of the TRESemme and Radox brands.

Mr Cameron and Mr Osborne paid a visit to Port Sunlight to see the expanded facility, also taking the time to meet with Unilever apprentices, participate in a question and answer session, and formally open the IT centre.

Unilever UK and Ireland executive chairman Graeme Pitkethly said: "We are delighted to have had the opportunity to show the prime minister and chancellor of the exchequer the investments made and to demonstrate Port Sunlight's continued strategic importance."

The company spent 200 million pounds on expanding the site, which has been in operation for more than 125 years and is the multinational organisation's historic base.

Home to factories that produce famous brands such as Persil, Surf and Radox, around one-third of the company’s 7,500-strong UK workforce are now based at this location.
