Sphere Medical to introduce new Proxima miniature in-line blood gas analyser

Sphere Medical has announced that its new Proxima in-line patient-dedicated arterial blood gas analyser will be launched in Europe at a conference later this month.

The device will make its debut at the International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (ISICEM) in Brussels from March 17th to 20th, during which attendees will be able to learn more about its functionality and advantages.

It delivers true point-of-care testing by enabling critical care staff to obtain frequent laboratory accurate blood gas measurements without leaving the patient's bedside, facilitating the clinical decision-making process.

The Proxima system has been fully evaluated and validated in a clinical setting, confirming excellent agreement between the results produced by the device and those of standard benchtop blood gas analysers.

Dr Tom Clutton-Brock, senior lecturer for anaesthesia and intensive care medicine at University Hospital Birmingham, said: "Rapid return of data and swift response to changing blood gases is as essential in patient care as the continual measurement of blood pressure."

Earlier this year, the company appointed Professor Dr Michael Quintel to its medical advisory board in order to offer insights into its strategy for launching new products such as the Proxima device.
