MPs publish pharmaceutical wishlist ahead of general election

With the UK's general election taking place on Thursday May 7th, a group of MPs have published a wishlist detailing what they would like the new government to address with regard to the pharmaceutical industry.

The All-Party Pharmacy Group (APPG) wants to see the introduction of a minor ailments service led by pharmacies, while it would also like chemists to become responsible for the national flu vaccine programme.

In addition, the APPG wants the current medicines-use review service to be expanded, as well as a standard post-discharge plan brought in for patients that will detail how pharmacies should be providing for them after they leave hospital.

The wishlist also suggests that the next parliament should create four new pharmacy divisions to manage the country's weight management, sexual health, alcohol management and smoking cessation services.

Finally, the APPG believes that pharmacists should be granted access to the electronic summary care records of all NHS patients.
