Malvern Instruments to ‘exhibit an expanding rheological toolkit at AERC 2015’

Malvern Instruments will showcase an expanding range of rheological tools that have been created to enhance research, understanding and product performance at the 10th Annual European Rheology Conference.

The firm's full range of Kinexus rotational rheometers will be exhibited, complemented by the innovative m-VROCi microfluidic rheometer and the Zetasizer ZSP for microrheology.

Malvern will also present collaborative work with Clausthal University, Germany, that demonstrates the value of a multi-technique approach in polymer solution characterisation, including the use of a new microfluidic channel for assessing extensional viscosities of dilute solutions.

According to the firm, the research carried out with the university corroborates the merit of using microrheology, rotational rheometry and microfluidics, in combination, to fully scope the performance of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) fluids.  

EOR solutions are used for polymer flooding, which involves injecting the solution into a porous rock surrounding a drilled well, to recover residual oil.

The m-VROCi microfluidic rheometer is the latest addition to Malvern's portfolio of rheological systems. It provides a safe and accurate measurement for low-viscosity fluids and is particularly helpful in calculating the ultra-high shear rate range.
