General Dental Practice Committee elects new chair

Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen has been appointed as the new chairman of the General Dental Practice Committee (GDPC), the British Dental Association has announced.

Mr Overgaard-Nielsen owns his own dental practice in Fulham, which has treated more than 100,000 NHS patients since it opened in 1999.

He previously held the role of vice-chair of the GDCP, but has now been elected to lead the committee, which acts as a voice for dentists operating in all areas of general practice, enabling them to benefit from greater collaboration and improved channels of communication.

Mr Overgaard-Nielsen commented: "I am honoured to have been elected as chair. Whilst we need productive working relationships with the Department of Health and NHS England, I am determined to stand up for the profession and to make sure that our views are heard."

He takes the place of John Milne, who has held the position of committee chair for six years, but has departed to join the Care Quality Commission as its new national dental advisor.
