MSD Animal Health launches respiratory infection vaccine for piglets

2nd April 2015

MSD Animal Health has announced the European launch of Porcilis PCV M Hyo, a new vaccine that offers protection against two prevalent respiratory infections affecting piglets.

This is the first ready-to-use single-injection combination vaccine available in Europe that protects piglets against both porcine circovirus type 2 and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infections during the finishing period.

Both of these pathogens can cause mild disease by themselves, but when they hit concurrently, they can induce severe respiratory disease and lesions that cause a considerable burden to producers.

This vaccine eliminates this threat and comes ready-to-use, meaning it does not require mixing, thus saving labour, time and reducing the potential for handling errors.

Narciso Bento, global swine business head at MSD Animal Health, said: "This ready-to-use vaccine requires less handling, resulting in less stress on the animals and the people that care for them."

The product received European regulatory approval at the tail end of last year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801782431-ADNFCR
