Celgene names former Cubist boss as new board member

Celgene has announced the appointment of Michael Bonney as the newest member of its board of directors.

Mr Bonney can offer considerable healthcare sector expertise, having served as the chief executive officer and board member at Cubist Pharmaceuticals from June 2003 until his retirement at the end of last year.

Prior to this, he acted as president and chief operating officer of Cubist from 2002 to 2003, held positions of increasing responsibility at Biogen from 1995 to 2001, and previously spent 11 years working for Zeneca Pharmaceuticals.

Mr Bonney currently serves as a director of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals and is also a trustee of the Tekla complex of life sciences and healthcare dedicated funds.

Bob Hugin, Celgene's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "Celgene will benefit greatly from Mike's knowledge and insights on the increasingly dynamic global healthcare environment."

The firm also recently appointed Gerald Masoudi as its new executive vice-president, general counsel and corporate secretary. This will take effect as of June 1st 2015.
