MSD Animal Health receives EU approval for Zuprevo label expansion
MSD Animal Health has announced that its broad spectrum antibiotic Zuprevo has been approved for a new European label expansion.
The Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use of the European Medicines Agency has given the green light for Zuprevo to used for metaphylactic use in the prevention of swine respiratory disease.
This will allow clinically healthy but presumably infected or susceptible animals in close contact with diseased pigs to be treated, thus reducing their risk for developing and spreading the disease.
In addition, age restrictions have been removed, allowing Zuprevo to now be used in piglets of all ages for the first time.
MSD Animal Health's Olivia Azlor said: "We are pleased to announce these new label changes, which will help veterinarians and producers extend their protection against these costly diseases."
This comes after the company launched Aquavac PD3, a single-injection vaccine that protects against the three main pathogens affecting salmon, in the UK and Ireland earlier this month.
