BDA and BMA oppose proposed Public Health England cuts

The British Dental Association (BDA) has joined forces with the British Medical Association (BMA) to voice opposition to planned cuts at Public Health England.

Both organisations have condemned plans for a staffing review and a suggested restructure at Public Health England, as they believe the move is motivated purely by a desire to reduce costs and will harm healthcare standards.

At the moment, many healthcare service providers are overworked and lack the financial resources and manpower to address the needs of their patients, meaning any further reductions to staffing or funding levels could potentially cause harm.

The BDA believes any Public Health England cuts will be damaging to the dental industry at a time when tooth decay is becoming a prevalent issue and there is a growing need for a joined-up approach to working.

Mick Armstrong, chair of the BDA, said: "Good oral health is a vital part of overall health and wellbeing and we strongly believe this restructure is a move in entirely the wrong direction at an important time."
