Biogen reports long-term safety and efficacy data for Eloctate

12th August 2015

Biogen has announced the publication of new clinical data showing the long-term safety and efficacy of its recombinant clotting factor VIII therapy Eloctate.

Published in the medical journal Haemophilia, the findings from the phase III open-label extension study ASPIRE provided evidence that people on extended-interval prophylaxis regimens with Eloctate experienced low bleeding rates.

Involving people who had completed the previous phase III A-LONG and Kids A-LONG studies, the trial showed that the prophylactic treatment benefits demonstrated in the earlier studies could be maintained over an extended period of time.

Dr Guy Young, director of the haemostasis and thrombosis centre at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, said: "The design of the ASPIRE study provides physicians a high degree of dosing flexibility, with the goal of reflecting their real-world treatment practices."

Currently, the drug is available in the US, Canada, Australia and Japan. It is the first recombinant clotting factor VIII therapy with prolonged circulation in the body.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801797311-ADNFCR
