Boehringer Ingelheim reports positive data for COPD drug Spiolto Respimat

17th August 2015

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced positive data from the new OTEMTO 1 and 2 trials, which assessed its chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) drug Spiolto Respimat.

Results from the phase IIIb trials demonstrated that Spiolto® Respimat provides consistent and clinically meaningful improvements in quality of life versus placebo in patients with COPD.

Further data from the 1,600-patient studies show Spiolto Respimat provides substantial improvements in breathlessness and lung function, as well as a safety profile similar to that of Spiriva or placebo.

These findings reinforce the positive findings generated by the previous phase III TONADO trials.

Dave Singh, professor of clinical pharmacology and respiratory medicine at the University of Manchester, said: "The improvement in quality of life provided by Spiolto Respimat in these trials could make a noticeable difference to the daily activity of COPD patients and enable them to maintain a more independent life."

This comes after the firm announced a new collaboration with Circuit Therapeutics last month on a project aimed at discovering new obesity therapies.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801797766-ADNFCR
