Medtronic to create new production facility in Galway
Medtronic has announced the creation of a new high-tech production facility in Galway, Ireland.
The site will be primarily utilised to manufacture the company's market-leading IN.PACT Admiral drug-coated balloon for the treatment of peripheral artery disease, with the development building on the existing high-tech capability and expertise at the site.
Around 100 members of staff will be employed at the facility, including specialists in the areas of quality and manufacturing engineering, supply chain and production management.
This builds on Ireland's world-leading medical technology capabilities, with the nation currently employing the highest number of medical technology personnel per capita in Europe.
Tony Semedo, senior vice-president and president of the aortic and peripheral vascular business at Medtronic, said: "Our organisation is on an expansionary path, with a notable amount of this growth to be fuelled by products coming out of Ireland."
Medtronic's IN.PACT Admiral drug-coated balloon recently demonstrated its efficacy in the treatment of peripheral artery disease in the IN.PACT SFA Trial.
