Teva introduces new generic frovatriptan tablets for migraine treatment

16th December 2015

Teva UK has expanded its generics portfolio with the launch of a new tablet-based therapy for migraine.

Its frovatriptan film-coated tablets have been introduced on the first day after the patent expired on the originator brand version of the medicine, Migard, manufactured by A Menarini Farmaceutica Internazionale.

They are indicated for the acute treatment of the headache phase of migraine attacks with or without aura, and will be made available as 2.5 mg doses in packs of six film-coated tablets.

Figures from Migraine Action indicate that one in seven people in the UK suffer from migraine, with the condition costing the UK more than two billion pounds each year.

Paul Burden, director for generics at Teva, said: "We hope it makes a positive impact on the lives of patients living with migraine, while also helping reduce the cost of treating this condition, which in turn helps the NHS, patients and payors."

It is estimated that the introduction of generic versions of medicines saves the healthcare system more than 12 billion pounds a year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801808318-ADNFCR
