Philips to launch wearable biosensor for low-acuity hospital settings

Philips has announced the launch of a new medical-grade biosensor monitoring solution for low-acuity hospital settings, such as the general ward.

This next-generation wearable monitoring solution for at-risk patients allows clinicians to automatically and continuously measure heart rate, respiratory rate, skin temperature, single-lead ECG, posture and activity data.

Data is then transmitted to a connected clinical decision support software application, which can be configured to promptly notify the appropriate caregiver when preset limits are exceeded.

The development of this solution was inspired by conversations with providers looking for rapid co-creation models to address specific issues, such as helping at-risk patients through recovery and transition to home care.

Carla Kriwet, chief executive officer for patient care and monitoring solutions at Philips, said: "We envision a future where patients enabled by connected health technologies will recover faster with fewer complications and greater peace of mind in the hospital and subsequently at home."

It comes as part of a broader portfolio of integrated solutions utilising analytics tools and dashboards to give clinicians actionable insights to improve outcomes, reduce costs and improve access to care.
