Eating Easter chocolates in one go ‘is better for oral health’
Eating Easter chocolates in one go may be better for oral health than spacing consumption out for a longer period of time.
This is according to a new report from TePe Oral Hygiene, which has indicated that reducing the number of snacking sessions helps to ensure the teeth are not subjected to high levels of acidity in the mouth for a prolonged period.
It is estimated that the mouth takes between 20 minutes and two hours to return to its normal level of acidity after eating sugar, meaning that grazing on chocolate throughout the day causes this harmful effect to be prolonged.
As such, it is recommended that chocolates should be eaten immediately after meals to minimise the impact on the teeth, while thorough and regular brushing is also essential.
The report said: "To ensure that your teeth don't spend the entire day rebalancing from a continuous sugar overload, we want to make consumers more aware of how damage can be lessened with some quick and simple steps."
