Qiagen showcases work with Intel and BioTeam at Bio-IT World
Qiagen has presented the outcomes of its collaborations with Intel and BioTeam at the recent Bio-IT World Conference and Expo in Boston.
The company has been working with leading businesses from the IT industry with the aim of creating infrastructure solutions to enhance the feasibility of population-scale genomic analysis for researchers.
In partnership with Intel, the firm has developed a computational solution and reference architecture for whole genome analysis, utilising Qiagen's CLC Genomics Server software on a compute cluster of 32 Intel Xeon processor E5 family based nodes.
Meanwhile, it worked with BioTeam to create a proof-of-concept high-performance computing appliance, mapping the computational requirements of the CLC Bio software to an infrastructure that complements its capabilities.
These solutions are being developed in response growing demand for tools to analyse next-generation sequencing data quickly and accurately.
Dr Laura Furmanski, senior vice-president and head of Qiagen's bioinformatics business area, said: "Researchers and clinicians need cost-effective, comprehensive tools for calling and interpreting variants across whole human genomes, and we are providing these novel solutions."
