Zoetis launches Simparica for flea, tick and mite protection

19th April 2016

Zoetis has announced the launch of Simparica, a new treatment protecting dogs from eight weeks of age upwards against parasite infestation.

Intended for the treatment of flea, tick and mite infestations, the therapy is delivered as a chewable tablet, acts quickly and provides continuous protection for 35 days, without losing efficacy at the end of the month.

Simparica kills a broad spectrum of ectoparasites, including Ctenocephalides canis, Ctenocephalides felis, Ixodes ricinus, Ixodes hexagonus, Dermacentor reticulatus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, and Sarcoptes scabiei.

It can also be used as part of a treatment strategy for flea allergy dermatitis, with laboratory evidence showing it provides efficacy against demodex canis and otodectes cynotis.

Ned Flaxman, companion animal business unit director at Zoetis, said: "With Simparica, we bring to the market an advanced parasiticide solution, helping to deliver improved client and pet owner satisfaction."

The parasiticide is being billed as the only oral isoxazoline treatment indicated for four species of ticks in Europe, including Ixodes hexagonus and the two species of fleas dogs are most frequently infested with.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801816889-ADNFCR
