MSD Animal Health to purchase Whisper veterinary stethoscope system

MSD Animal Health has announced the acquisition of global rights to Geissler Companies' Whisper veterinary stethoscope system.

The device is a detection system for bovine respiratory disease (BRD) that is used to determine the severity of an animal's lung condition, making it easier to select the appropriate treatment regimen.

It utilises an electronic stethoscope to capture a lung sound, then utilises computer-aided proprietary analytics to evaluate the severity of the condition. This helps to  improve lung health-related outcomes.

BRD is a common disease among cattle that affects the upper and lower respiratory tracts. It can often be fatal, leading to substantial economic losses for farmers if it is not treated properly.

Rick DeLuca, president of MSD Animal Health, said: "It is important to provide our customers with the most innovative solutions available today that will meet their needs to maintain healthy stock and advance animal wellbeing."

Established treatments for BRD include the use of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents.
