Medtronic’s VenaSeal closure system shows benefits in new study
Medtronic has announced new clinical data showing the benefit of its VenaSeal closure system.
The non-tumescent, non-thermal, non-sclerosant procedure has demonstrated consistent long-term durability and improved quality of life in patients with venous reflux disease after two years in the VeClose pivotal clinical study.
Two additional sub-analyses of the study also demonstrated the quality of life benefits it can provide to patients and the ease-of-use advantages it offers to physicians. Three-year results from the European Sapheon Closure System Observational ProspectivE study further underlined its advantages.
VenaSeal uses a proprietary medical adhesive to close superficial veins of the lower extremities, such as the great saphenous vein, in patients with symptomatic venous reflux.
Sandra Lesenfants, vice-president and general manager of Medtronic's endoVenous business, said: "We're enthusiastic about the unveiling of such strong datasets and we look forward to continuing to build upon this clinical programme."
This comes after the company recently revealed clinical data showing the benefits of the Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor in detecting atrial fibrillation.
