St Jude Medical launches new PressureWire guidewire technology in Europe
St Jude Medical has received European CE Mark approval for its new PressureWire X guidewire fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurement system.
The device, which is designed to help identify the severity of narrowings in the coronary arteries of patients with coronary artery disease, is to be rolled out in selected European territories over the course of the year.
FFR measurement allows for a more effective assessment of coronary lesions, resulting in more accurate diagnosis and more informed treatment decisions for patients. The system also provides enhanced durability and improved handling.
Data from the FAME clinical trial showed that patient outcomes using the new system were superior compared to angiography alone in patients with coronary artery disease.
Dr Mark Carlson, chief medical officer and vice-president of global medical affairs at St Jude Medical, said: "The new PressureWire X guidewire shows our dedication to providing physicians with cost-effective, easy-to-use technologies that aid them in making the best treatment decisions for their patients."
The PressureWire X guidewire technology is being showcased at the EuroPCR 2016 meeting, which takes place in Paris this week.
