Mawdsleys to distribute licensed gemcitabine infusion bags

Mawdsleys is to distribute the first ever licensed gemcitabine infusion bags after the products recently received regulatory approval.

Manufactured by Sun Pharma, the bags will be sold exclusively through Mawdsleys and are designed to be ready to administer for the treatment of patients with ovarian, lung, breast and pancreatic cancer.

Available in various dosages, the bags will be suitable for 70 percent of oncology patients on average, having been specifically prepared to conform to the new NHS England dose bands that are coming into effect.

They are also designed for compatibility with all known infusion lines, coming complete with a non-drip spike port. The bags will be sold in single packs and can be stored at room temperature.

Mawdsleys said: "One of the biggest groundbreaking developments is the standard two-year shelf life that comes with each strength; for added safety, the bag itself is PVC and alcohol-free."

This comes after Mawdsleys Pre-Wholesale was selected as the third-party logistics service provider of choice by the UK division of Daiichi Sankyo last month.
