Government issues health advice in response to summer heat wave
The government has issued health advice this week in response to the extreme heat being experienced throughout much of the UK.
Soaring temperatures prompted a Level 3 heatwave alert on Tuesday (July 19th), dropping down to a Level 2 alert for the rest of the week.
Due to these temperature trends, Public Health England has urged people to look after their health in the heat and is also offering support to those who are at high risk of serious illness as a result of the weather conditions.
Dr Angie Bone, head of extreme events at Public Health England, said it is important to remember that the elderly, young children and people with underlying health conditions could be at risk as a result of the temperatures this week.
The government advised people to look out for those who are in greatest danger and to drink plenty of water throughout the day. People should also stay out of the sun between 11:00 and 15:00 where possible, while keeping curtains closed to make rooms feel cooler.
Physical exertion is advised against, while anyone going outside should ensure they have applied adequate sun protection.
