Biogen’s new haemophilia-focused company to be named Bioverativ

Biogen has announced that the standalone haemophilia-focused global biotechnology company it will be launching next year will be called Bioverativ.

To be introduced in early 2017, the Bioverativ business will be dedicated to the discovery, research, development and commercialisation of treatments for haemophilia and other blood disorders.

This new spinoff company will handle the commercialisation of Eloctate and Alprolix under Biogen's existing collaboration agreement with Swedish Orphan Biovitrum, while it is expected to continue development of both drugs, including conducting studies to explore their potential benefits on long-term joint health, immunogenicity and immune tolerance induction in patients who develop inhibitors.

Further efforts will be dedicated to advancing pipeline programmes that address areas of unmet need in haemophilia and other blood disorders, including programmes studying longer-acting factor therapies that utilise XTEN technology and genetic treatment.
