Tecan announces SPEware Corporation takeover

Tecan has agreed a deal to acquire SPEware Corporation, a US life science business, allowing it to move into a new market segment.

SPEware is a leading provider of mass spectrometry sample preparation solutions, operating primarily in the North American market. The addition will strengthen Tecan's range of mass spectrometry sample preparation automation platforms.

Offering sample preparation solutions for analytical laboratories, SPEware combines smart chemistry consumables with dedicated instruments and modules to make liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry workflows more efficient.

It has outperformed the market by a considerable margin in recent years and works with a wide range of large reference labs and specialised laboratories across North America.

Dr David Martyr, chief executive officer of Tecan, said: "We can now expand our solution offering into the sample preparation for mass spectrometry market, complementing the market for specialty immunoassays served by IBL International."

The firm achieved strong double-digit sales growth during the first half of 2016 and expects to continue this momentum over the remainder of the year.
