Sartorius Stedim Biotech launches Sartocon Slice 50 ECO crossflow device

Sartorius Stedim Biotech has announced the launch of a new crossflow filter that has been specially designed for water-based protein solutions with low viscosities.

The Sartocon Slice 50 ECO device can be used in biotech applications such as the filtration of IgG, blood factors and peptides, especially involving membrane screening and small-volume process development.

Its reduced flow channel geometry lowers the recirculation pump requirements by as much as 50 percent compared to a standard design, considerably decreasing the stress on protein solutions.

The cassette is offered as an encapsulated and ready-to-use crossflow module across a wide selection of molecular weight cutoffs. Its filtration unit, meanwhile, is available in a choice of two polymers: a stable polyethersulfone membrane and the Hydrosart cross-linked regenerated cellulosic polymer membrane.

Frank Meyeroltmanns, expert for crossflow filtration at Sartorius Stedim Biotech, said: "With our new product, we are offering the industry a high-performance device for especially efficient filtration of low-volume aqueous protein solutions."

This comes after the company launched a new fully integrated upstream platform for biopharmaceutical manufacturing earlier this month.
