Teva and Intel to develop wearable device for Huntington’s disease monitoring
Teva is collaborating with Intel to create a wearable device and machine learning platform for continuous measurement and analysis of Huntington's disease symptoms.
The platform will have the ability to continuously monitor and analyse key symptoms that impact daily living, giving clinicians a better understanding of disease progression and treatment evaluation methods.
As part of Teva's ongoing phase II Open-Pride HD study, patients will be asked to use a smartphone and smartwatch equipped with sensing technology to continuously measure their general functioning and movement.
This data will be wirelessly streamed to a cloud-based platform specifically developed by Intel to analyse the information, with algorithms used to translate the data into objective scores of motor symptom severity in near real time.
The project will ally Intel's analytics and movement detection tech capabilities with Teva's knowledge and experience in the field of Huntington's disease treatment and research.
Michael Hayden, president of Teva's global research and development and chief scientific officer, said: "Current measurement of symptoms is largely based on observation when the patient sees the doctor. This technology now provides us with an opportunity to have continuous monitoring."
