Novartis reports new clinical data showing benefits of Entresto

Novartis has announced the results of a new post-hoc analysis showing the quality of life benefits associated with its drug Entresto.

New findings from the PARADIGM-HF trial show that among patients who had been hospitalised for heart failure, those on Entresto reported higher relative health-related quality of life (HRQoL) scores compared to those taking an ACE inhibitor.

For heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction, the decline in HRQoL scores associated with a heart failure hospitalisation was approximately 50 percent lower compared to those taking the ACE inhibitor.

Meanwhile, a second post-hoc analysis in the overall study population demonstrated an association between a decline in HRQoL scores and an increased risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalisation.

Vasant Narasimhan, global head of drug development and chief medical officer at Novartis, said the data "further reinforces the potential of this medicine to improve the outlook for patients living with this debilitating condition".

Entresto is taken twice a day and reduces the strain on failing hearts by enhancing its protective neurohormonal systems, while simultaneously suppressing the harmful effects of the overactive renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
