Takeda and Affilogic ally on central nervous system research
Takeda has announced a new partnership with Affilogic that will focus on the development of new treatments targeting the central nervous system.
The research collaboration will explore the use of Affilogic's proprietary Nanofitins platform, with the specific aim of validating and optimising Nanofitins that enable Takeda to deliver biotherapeutic candidates into the brain to address neurological disorders.
Nanofitins are highly effective antibody-mimetics that have demonstrated high affinity and specificity for capturing, targeting and interacting with biomolecules. They can be easily conjugated to other moieties to empower third-party molecules, with little impact on the natural properties of their payload.
Affilogic will receive an upfront payment and research funding, plus additional development and sales milestone payments and royalties, while Takeda will receive the right to commercialise Nanofitin-based resulting from the collaboration worldwide.
Dr Ceri Davies, head of Takeda's central nervous system drug discovery unit, said: "The collaboration with Affilogic provides Takeda with an excellent opportunity to accelerate its modality diversification into biologics by utilising the innovative Nanofitin technology that Affilogic has developed."
This work will be led by Takeda's research centre in San Diego, California.
