Thermo Fisher Scientific completes FEI Company acquisition

26th September 2016

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the completion of its takeover of FEI Company in a deal worth $4.2 billion (3.24 billion pounds).

The business, which is a recognised leader in the field of high-performance electron microscopy, will become part of Thermo Fisher Scientific's analytical instruments division now that the acquisition has been finalised.

It is expected that the addition of FEI's products will enable its new parent company to offer a better range of services to materials science markets that increasingly rely on nanotechnologies.

The company expects to realise total synergies of approximately $80 million within three years of closing the deal, consisting of approximately $55 million of cost synergies and $25 million of adjusted operating income benefit from revenue-related synergies.

Marc Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "With FEI's leading electron microscopy platform, we're now in an even stronger position to help our life sciences customers accelerate advancements in structural biology."

Thermo Fisher Scientific opened new global headquarters in Massachusetts earlier this month, further underlining its current growth trajectory.
