Boston Scientific agrees deal to acquire EndoChoice
Boston Scientific has announced the acquisition of EndoChoice, a leading developer of products and services for specialists treating a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions.
Worth around $210 million (163.62 million pounds), the deal will help Boston Scientific to expand its endoscopy gastroenterology portfolio, adding a range of single-use devices such as resection and retrieval devices, needles, graspers and infection control kits.
EndoChoice also has strong positions in the fields of pathology services and imaging technologies, generating approximately $75 million of total sales in the 12-month period ending on June 30th 2016.
Its offerings include the Full Spectrum Endoscopy colonoscope, which enables doctors to better see anatomy and find more lesions during colonoscopies. Boston Scientific intends to evaluate strategic options for this product.
Art Butcher, senior vice-president and president for endoscopy at Boston Scientific, said: "We expect the acquisition to expand our leadership into new categories in the endoscopy market, and to drive strong, continued growth of our endoscopy business."
Boston Scientific expects the deal to close during the fourth quarter of the year.
